Sustainability

BOY'D is a queer-owned Australian brand, designed in Melbourne, and we think looking good and doing right shouldn't be a trade-off. Here's how we approach making swimwear and underwear more responsibly.

Lenzing modal: our "vegan silk"

Our Afterglow underwear is made from Lenzing modal, often called "vegan silk". It's a natural fibre spun from renewable beech wood grown in sustainably managed forests, not from petrochemicals. That's what gives it the silky-soft, breathable feel, and it's why it wicks moisture better than cotton, resists shrinking and pilling, and holds its colour wash after wash.

Modal also has a lighter footprint than conventional cotton. The beech wood is renewable, the production process uses significantly less water, and the finished fibre is biodegradable. It feels better, and it is better. Shop Afterglow underwear.

Designed in Melbourne, made to last

We're not a fast-fashion brand. Every BOY'D silhouette is designed in-house in Melbourne, with original pattern-making and our own fabric development. We don't buy white-label stock off an overseas wholesale rack, which means less waste, tighter quality control, and pieces built to survive sun, salt and several summers rather than a single season. The most sustainable garment is the one you keep wearing.

What about the swimwear?

Our Candy swim briefs use a high-performance blend of 82% polyamide and 18% spandex, because swimwear has to handle chlorine, salt and 4-way stretch in a way natural fibres can't. We're honest about that. Where we make the difference is durability and design: quick-drying, colourfast fabric and a tailored cut that lasts, so you buy one great pair instead of replacing cheap ones every summer.

Honest about the journey

We're a small brand and we're still improving. We focus on the choices that genuinely matter: a responsibly sourced hero fabric, local design, and quality that keeps clothes out of landfill. As we grow, so will our commitments. Read more about BOY'D.
